Chai tea lattes are some of the most popular beverages at Starbucks. However, they’re dangerously loaded with sugar. Just a grande has 240 calories and 42 grams of sugar! As usual, I decided to take this sugary confection into my own hands for a homemade version. My chai tea latte has all the same flavor, but barely any sugar!
This chai tea latte is beyond easy to make at home. Simply steep your tea to your desired strength and topped with steamed milk of your choice. I love the flavor combination of chai and soy milk. Top it off with a bit of cinnamon and you’re an expert at home barista! I recently discovered this amazing Califia unsweetened vanilla almond milk. It has great flavor, but not added sugar! What a dream!
I used my trusty milk frother (first mentioned in my Homemade Healthy Pumpkin Chai recipe). This frother is perfect for any latte addict and more reasonable than purchasing a full espresso machine. It froths milk in seconds and works great for all sorts of milk varieties! Definitely worth the investment for any coffee or tea lover at home.
If chai isn’t your cup of tea, you can choose any tea variety. Green tea and soy are some of my favorite chai alternative combinations. The possibilities are endless! These tea lattes make me want to curl up on the couch with a good book and some lazy cats!
Tip: You can order this version of chai at Starbucks! Simply ask for a brewed chai tea latte. Be sure to (kindly) specify to your barista that you want the brewed tea from the tea bag and not the syrup in the “normal” chai tea latte.
